Local ideas, local skills, local solutions

SUMMER ACTIVITY PROGRAMME 2016

One of our Key Themes is “Children and Young People.” The Partnership helped parents and families in the area this summer by providing FREE OF CHARGE five weeks of safe, interesting and exciting activities for children of various ages right on our door-step.

These included fun filled Family Pizza Picnics for families and their children up to 11 years which were held on the Green in Usmere Rd and on the lawn between the Horsefair flats. Home Start provided support at all the picnics, as did volunteers from the local community. Along side the picnics, WFDC provided Play Here Activities, arts and  crafts, sports and games. They also hosted a skate-board luge challenge competition (not for the faint hearted!) and took a group of youths on an away camp.

For those thinking about their future path in life there were practical taster sessions presented by Horizons Ltd for 14-16 year olds to come and have a go at various hands-on skills such as hairdressing, horror make-up  or paining and decorating.

Active Youth Outreach Services provided archery, skate-board ramps, games consoles, table tennis, inflatables, arts and crafts and were extremely popular. Ever popular football was provided by the Harriers in the Community and it was great to see how many young ladies were joining in and taking it seriously! Kidderminster and District Youth Trust provided their Play Bus and the PCSO supported many of the events and as you can see in the slide-show below, enjoyed joining in with the fun.

Daily texts and Facebook updates ensured residents about the activities of the day and resulted in over 1100 children attending activities.

The bridges that were built and  the trust that developed between Big Local DY10 over this summer of activities will form the foundation of a stronger and more integrated neighbourhood in the future. We look forward to working on  many more successful projects together.
