Summer Activities 2018

This year we celebrated another fantastic four weeks of our free summer programme for families in the areas of the Horsefair, Broadwaters, and Greenhill. Including fun filled pizza picnics for children of various ages with plenty of outdoor activities from face painting and glitter tattoos to a smoothie bike.

Our programme was jam packed with other activities such as sessions from the Harriers, a skateboard Luge challenge and Active Youth Outreach’s sessions with archery, table tennis, scooters and inflatable castles which were extremely popular. Logistic support was again provided by the legendary ‘apple man’ Ben Bendall of Friends of Springfield Park, Home Start and 10-32 again provided their wonderful volunteers to help. We’d also like to thank Tesco and Amanda Connor for providing us with free fruit to distribute at our picnics.

The weather was in our favour (for most of the time!) as around 1000 children attended our activities in the sunshine.

We also enjoyed the second year of our end of summer community engagement event ‘The Big Picnic’ at Springfield Park. It had a family focus, filled with free activities for the children and useful information about services on their doorstep that are available including Hereford & Worcester Fire, 10-32, Wyre Forest Community Housing, Living Well, Vestia, West Mercia Police, Safer Wyre Forest, Nova Training, Worcestershire Learning, Pickup Artists, Louise Rush Tutoring, Health Watch and St Mary’s.

We couldn’t have done it without our fantastic volunteers and organisations who gave us their time to engage with the community.

Lastly, a thank you to all who came down and made it a big success, it was great to see all the families enjoying themselves, taking part in various activities, creating conversation, and embracing the sunshine.

Big Local DY10 cannot wait to engage with more families and create an even better programme for 2019!
