Big Local DY10 newsletter: October 2018

It’s hard to believe we’re almost reaching the end of the year and half term is just days away!

As the leaves begin to change and we move into those colder autumnal nights, we’d like to show you our highlights of events and projects in the area from the past few months.

Events Grants The Partnership

Summer Success

This year we celebrated another fantastic four weeks of our free summer programme for families in the areas of the Horsefair, Broadwaters, and Greenhill. Including fun filled pizza picnics for children of various ages and plenty of outdoor activities such as sessions from the Harriers, a skateboard Luge challenge, and Active Youth Outreach’s sessions  which were extremely popular. The weather was in our favour (for most of the time!) as around 1000 children attended our activities in the sunshine.

We also enjoyed the second year of our end of summer community engagement event ‘The Big Picnic’ at Springfield Park. It had a family focus, filled with free activities for the children and useful information about services on their doorstep that are available such as Hereford & Worcester Fire service, West Mercia Police, Safer Wyre Forest, and Health Watch.

A huge thank you to all our fantastic volunteers- we couldn’t have done it without you!

Mr Tee In The Park

One of the most recent events this year funded by Big Local was the fantastic Mr Tee in the Park in July.

This has become an annual free music festival in celebration of the Kidderminster legend, which is gradually growing bigger and better, involving local businesses and helping to grow an even stronger sense of community.

It was a day to remember, with over 1600 people attending! A great example of what can be achieved when local minds come up with great ideas.
Horsefair Painting Project

We’d just like to share and show off some of the fantastic work that has been carried out in the Horsefair recently by Horsefair and Proud!

They’re currently working on a new project, painting the shop fronts and showering them with heritage and history. They have been adding clocks above each shop as a homage to the old landmark clock that was in place in 1912, with some clever time related quotes to match, in order to improve the area.

We definitely recommend that you take a trip down to the Horsefair to see the changes that they’ve made if you haven’t already!

Spooky Springfield

Creep down to Springfield Park for some haunted happenings on Halloween night!

They’ve got plenty of frightfully good activities lined up to give you and your family the shivers. Including our annual fancy dress competition, with categories for all ages- We hope you’ve got your scariest face ready!

Want To Get Involved?

Want to help shape your neighbourhood and make a difference in your community? Big Local DY10 are looking for people to become members of our partnership!

We want to strengthen our partnership, in order to develop a long-term organisation that will stand the test of time and help our project continue for years to come, building on the spirit of our area, to help it get stronger and stronger.

Our Partners meet just once a month, 10 times a year for about 1 ½ hours. We are a strategic group, deciding on the plans and projects we want to employ to accomplish our aims for the area and local community.

Help us to bring together the community’s views and create opportunities to invest in our future, whilst also creating skills and confidence. We would greatly receive your input and ideas around the area. Come and join us!
