Local ideas, local skills, local solutions

Big Local DY10 Primary Parliament

We are currently working with the local Primary Schools in our area to develop a ‘DY10 Primary Parliament’. This project will enable local young people to debate the neighbourhood issues that affect them and develop some innovative solutions. The ‘Primary Parliament’ will have a direct input into the decisions that affect how the £1million is used to make our area a better place to live.

12 local children from St. Marys & St. Oswalds School will become ‘ambassadors’ for the project and will work with teachers to establish the Parliament. Their first assignment will be to represent the Big Local DY10 project on a visit the Houses of Parliament on 26th November. Their day will begin with a trip on the London Eye and then they will meet Mark Garnier MP at the Houses of Parliament. Here they will receive a short tour of the Houses of Parliament before he holds a question & answer session with them.

They will use their learning and inspiration from this visit to work with the other schools in the area to help design and shape the ‘Big Local DY10 Primary Parliament’.
